Utilitarian Object
2015 Second Year BA visual arts
This course requires, each student to research design and fabricate a sculpture that focusses on:
object/time
body/object
gesture/action
design/function
An Initial phase of 2-D and 3-D investigations is followed by a focussed investigation and fabrication of an object. The fabrication will serve its function and the funtion will serve the performance of the action. In this way object time and body will intersect to create a piece that speaks to the relationship between form, function and action. An accompanying set of "how to" or instruction manual explains the use and/or mis-use
of the object.
